Marmora road

Marmora road lies parallel to Therapia road.

Marmora road

The name of this road comes from the sea of Marmora. The Sea of Marmora also known as the Sea of Marmara, the Marmara Sea, and in the antiquity as the Propontis is the inland sea, entirely within the borders of Turkey, that connects the Black Sea to the Aegean Sea, thus separating Turkey's Asian and European parts. The Sea of Marmara is the smallest sea in the world. It has an area of 11,350 km2, with dimensions 280 km × 80 km. Its greatest depth is 1,370 m.

The Bosphorus strait connects it to the Black Sea and the Dardanelles strait to the Aegean Sea.

The Bosphorus also separates Istanbul into its Asian and European sides.

Interestingly La Marmora (Alessandro Ferrero La Marmora 1799-1855) was the name of the commander of the second division of the army corps of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Lieutenant General La Marmora died at Balaklava from cholera shortly after disembarking there during the Crimean War.
