Alessandro La Marmora barracks

La Marmora barracks (Former name: The Dogali Barracks) is printed in the memory of the city not so much for its original functions as a a military building, but for the saddest conversion after September 8, 1943 to a place of detention and torture of alleged opponents of the regime.

Built to house an infantry regiment composed of twelve companies, the Dogali barracks is  fully part of the policy of intensifying the presence of new military structures in the city.

The project developed by Captain Giuseppe Bottero in 1887 was completed in 1888 under the direction of another engineer captain, Siro Brauzzi. The current barracks retain the original shapes in terms of both the planimetric distribution and the architectural solution of the façades.

Named after Alessandro La Marmora in 1921, the barracks have hosted several army corps over the years, from the V Genio Regiment (1897-1920) to the IV Bersaglieri Cycling Regiment (1921).
